The Bed Bugs Menace - Problem and Cure

Bed bugs cause unnecessary annoyance to family members in numerous households. These irritating pests sustain on warm blood, and if human victims are not available then they attack household pets like dogs. Pest control efforts must be carried out earnestly if this problem is to be eliminated.

Travellers are usually responsible for transmission of bed bugs, and once these bugs find a new habitat they multiply on their own rapidly. They swarm beds, furniture, carpets and any such objects where they can find holes and gaps.

A common myth about bed bugs is that they multiply because of lack of hygiene, but nothing can be farther from the truth. It must be remembered that blood and not trash is what invites these bugs and therefore keeping the house spotlessly clean does little to fight bed bugs. But cleaner surroundings facilitate better spotting of these pests and thereby removing them becomes easier.

That bed bugs are too tiny to be seen without any magnifying device is another mistaken belief. The fact is that bed bugs are actually big enough to be spotted without any magnifying device but they have a flat body which helps them disappear into little holes and clothing folds easily, making it hard to spot them.

They will usually bite once a week or so, and they can really survive for a long time without feeding – commonly six months, but sometimes over a year.

When it comes to disinfecting a house of bed bugs, not many people can do the job better than a professional pest controller, so it is better to hire such a person instead of trying to get rid of these pests on your own. However, if you don’t want to spend on a professional, the next best thing to do is to vigorously clean carpets, bed linen etc. in hot water and then let them to dry in the sun. It is essential to close all gaps in the walls and remove furniture that has holes in it, so that these bugs don’t get any place to grow.
