How to Get Your Own Labrador
You have never thought about what type of dog you need, and the only thing that is running through your mid is the four legged cutie that your neighbor has bought. The yellow Labrador that you saw today at the pet store is still fresh in your memory asking you to give him a home, and you barely have the power to resist the temptation and go get it from the store.
You want to have a pet dog, and that idea is fast taking over your mind and your senses, you want a new dog just now! However, you have been hearing horror stories about dog owners all your life that keep reminding you of how some dog owners and their puppies could not suit each other, and heart wrenching stories of puppies abandoned by their owners that have forced you to think twice before getting a new puppy.
Since you do not have the intentions of getting a puppy so quickly into your life, a little bit of soul searching is what you can do about the Labrador breed of dogs. This needs to be done in order to ensure that you have a good idea regarding what to look for in a Lab puppy and what can be expected back from the puppy as it grows up into an adult dog.
The first and the foremost thing that you need to know about dogs is that most dogs have a very long lifespan and like these dogs a Labrador can live up to 12-13 years, and there is a lot of variation in the life expectancy of dogs and some may even live up to 18-19 years. This may not be the case always, but the thing that you should understands is that owning a dog is a lifelong commitment. You need to understand that you cannot get tired of the dog and will need to treat it with care and attention all the time.
Having gotten that out of the way, you can then go on to look at the various characteristics that you can expect in your yellow Lab puppy. These can be wide ranging, but most commonly you will find that Labradors are a very intelligent breed. They are very trainable and they have a gentle temperament. This makes them ideal companions for handicapped people, and many Labradors are taken for this purpose.
Labradors also have a gentle nature which makes the ideal pet for families with young children. If they are left alone, not exercised properly, or overfed they can become sedentary, and this is really the last thing that you want to do to your frisky energetic bundle of Labrador.
Showering your yellow Labrador puppy with love and affection, playing with it, exercising it regularly are some of the things that you can do increase the bonding with your new puppy, and one thing is sure that the more you try to do these things, the more you would be awarded for your efforts.
