Polar Switch 2012 - Explained
Is it really possible for the Earth’s poles to suddenly switch locations?
Based on the claims of the proponents of the polar switch 2012 theory, it is.
The Original Idea
The scientist who have first seriously discussed on the theory is Charles A. Hapgood, the author of three widely publicized polar shift-based books, ‘The Earth’s Shifting Crust’, ‘Maps of the Ancient Sea Kings’ and ‘The Path of the Pole’. His theories explain that the rotational axis of the Earth has been switched for a number of times over the course of history. According to Hapgood, polar shift is very possible due to the very nature of the crust of the Earth, which as scientific evidence support, sits on a semi-liquid layer of rock. The crust’s constant movement confirms such theories as continental drift.
Originally, however, Hapgood’s theory was founded on the constant build-up of ice in the North and South Poles. Since these masses are not equally distributed about the poles, he proposed it was possible for ice to form heavily on one part of the poles – reaching up to 2 miles thick at various locations – eventually destabilizing Earth’s rotation. Even the great physicist, Albert Einstein supported the idea.
Later, however, Hapgood revised his theory and proposed that such an event is not possible. Back with newer ideas, Hapgood went on to suggest that for the last 100,000 years, crust displacement has been happening, arguing that the most recent polar shift occurred during the last Ice Age.
Newer Findings
Contrary to current beliefs, the original author of the idea proposed that while it is possible for sudden polar shift to occur, it run against the evidence he found. According to his ideas and the evidence he had gathered to support them, sudden polar switch is far from happening. Instead, he proposed that polar shifts and the next polar shift will happen very very slowly. This event can possibly happen over a 5,000 to 20,000 year period, depending on how near or far a given location is from the equator.
Nevertheless, this does not stop the development of new conjectures from advancing theories about the cataclysmic polar switch which, according to theorists, is scheduled to happen in 2012, in time with other cataclysmic events. It is suggested that this imminent pole switch will force the Earth and mankind to plunge into a period of turmoil and catastrophe.
Conclusions
If it is true that another polar shift will occur in the very near future, isn’t it logical to be worried? After all, the damage polar switch 2012 could lead to is such that man’s existence itself is threatened. Whether or not you believe in this interesting theory and the doomsday scenarios that go along with it, the least thing you can do is to prepare.
