Polls and interviews show that many Russians now accept President Vladimir V. Putin’s contention that their country is under siege from the West and that it had no choice but to attack. The war’s opponents are leaving the country or keeping quiet. And Russians who support the war are starting to turn on the enemy within.
What is behind this shifting view, and what does it mean for those who go against it?
